Veteran's 20-mile march delivers hope to unpaid TSA workers amid shutdown

A Colorado veteran known as Big Tony has walked over 20 miles to support unpaid TSA workers during the US government shutdown. Carrying a large American flag, he completed the journey from I-25 to Denver International Airport over two days. His effort comes as thousands of federal employees, including TSA staff, face financial hardship after more than 40 days without pay. Big Tony began his walk on Friday, trekking through the night before arriving at the airport on Saturday morning. Along the way, a Denver police car escorted him for part of the route, drawing attention to his cause.

The veteran organised the event to help fellow veterans working for the TSA, many of whom have struggled since the shutdown began. He raised funds and collected donations from local businesses and organisations, gathering gift cards, food, and other essentials for affected workers. Meanwhile, President Trump signed an executive order ensuring TSA employees will receive back pay starting this workweek. However, financial difficulties remain for many, with reports of damaged credit scores and ongoing uncertainty. Staffing shortages at airports have also led to longer wait times, though exact numbers of unpaid workers are unclear.

Big Tony's walk has provided direct support to TSA workers in Denver, offering supplies and raising awareness of their struggles. Despite the executive order on back pay, the shutdown's impact continues, leaving many federal employees facing lasting financial challenges.
