On the morning of February 20, 2026, a man left his suitcase behind on a regional train and subsequently sought assistance from Deutsche Bahn's customer service desk at Mainz Central Station. Apparently dissatisfied with the information provided about the procedure, he called the emergency police line. Federal police were alerted and located the man on Platform 4. He was identified as a 52-year-old Egyptian national currently residing in Germany without authorization, prompting officers to escort him to the station for further processing.
After consulting with the relevant immigration authority, officers prepared to release the man with a temporary certificate. However, once police procedures were completed, he refused to leave the station. When officers attempted to remove him from the premises, he verbally abused them and turned violent, biting one officer on the finger. In total, three officers sustained injuries—including the bite wound, as well as scratches and abrasions—though all remained on duty.
Authorities have launched a criminal investigation against the man on charges of misusing emergency services, illegal residence, assaulting law enforcement officers, and insulting behavior.
