Waldkirch Transforms Josefshaus into a Vibrant Community Hub by 2026
The city of Waldkirch has announced plans to repurpose the Josefshaus building in Kollnau as a new community hub. Starting July 1, 2026, the site will replace the current community centre, which will be sold to fund the project. Local clubs and schools will benefit from the changes, though further details will depend on public feedback. The project begins with public consultations on May 11, 2026. Residents will have the chance to share their views through workshops held in May, June, and July. These sessions will help shape how the Josefshaus is used once it opens.
Once complete, the building will serve as a central meeting place for Kollnau’s residents and organisations. Local clubs and associations will move into the repurposed space, freeing up room for Kohlenbach Elementary School. The current community centre will be decommissioned and sold, with the proceeds reinvested into the Josefshaus. Beyond the immediate plans, the site offers long-term potential for additional housing. However, no specific proposals have been developed yet.
The Josefshaus will officially open for use on July 1, 2026. The city will use public input to finalise its role in the community. The project aims to create a more efficient and accessible space for local groups and schools.
