The image shows a building with a plaque on the side of it, a window, a door, a light, a chain, and some plants. The plaque is likely a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, as it is a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought in the war.

Wenzelnberg Memorial Honours 71 Nazi Victims in 81st Anniversary Ceremony

An annual commemoration will be held at the Wenzelnberg Memorial on April 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. The event honours the 71 victims murdered by the Nazi regime on April 13, 1945. This year, Langenfeld takes the lead in organising the ceremony, continuing a 20-year tradition shared with Leverkusen. The memorial service will feature speeches from Langenfeld Mayor Gerold Wenzens and Alexandra Mehdi of the Solingen VVN-BdA. Students from the 12th grade (Q1) of Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium in Langenfeld will also participate in the ceremony.

Two local choirs—the Langenfeld Children's and Youth Choir and the AWO Choir—will perform together during the event. The gathering will close with attendees singing *The Peat Bog Soldiers*, a song historically linked to resistance and remembrance. The commemoration is jointly organised by the cities of Langenfeld, Leverkusen, Remscheid, Solingen, Wuppertal, and Leichlingen. For the past two decades, Leverkusen and Langenfeld have alternately hosted the event, with Leverkusen last overseeing it on April 19 (year unspecified).

The ceremony will mark 81 years since the Nazi massacre at Wenzelnberg. The event brings together local leaders, students, and choirs to remember those killed. Attendance is open to the public, with the programme set to begin at 11 a.m.
