Wiesbaden's Walhalla Hall restoration gains momentum with €70M plan by 2030
Wiesbaden's Walhalla Hall Renovation Moves Forward
The restoration of Wiesbaden's historic Walhalla Hall is making progress. According to the city, the municipal council approved further key steps at its meeting on Wednesday, February 11. These include the removal of hazardous substances, structural reinforcement of the building, and the partial demolition of an annex.
"With the council's decision, the revival of the Walhalla takes another crucial step forward," said Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende. The approved measures specifically include dismantling the western annex, which dates back to the 1930s. Additionally, the city will commission further planning to refine cost estimates. Decisions on the future operating and leasing model will be made at a later date.
Demolition to Begin This Summer
The first visible work is scheduled to start in the summer, when a side wing adjacent to the hall's main banquet room on Hochstättenstraße will be removed. The demolition is expected to reveal remnants of the building's original façade, which will then be incorporated into the design of the new window fronts.
Before additional preliminary investigations can proceed, a clothing store currently occupying the ground floor must relocate—a move planned for the end of March 2026. Once vacated, experts will be able to examine the intermediate ceilings and attic in detail, a critical step for the next phase of restoration.
Projected Costs: €70 Million
Current estimates place the total cost of renovating the Walhalla at approximately €70 million. The city anticipates completing the entire project by 2030.
