Woman and driver arrested after revenge arson attack in Indore
A woman and her driver were arrested in Indore after a car was deliberately set alight in Vijay Nagar. The incident, which took place on 16 March 2023, targeted a vehicle owned by Kapil Chauhan. Police later uncovered a revenge plot linked to a broken relationship.
The fire was reported when an unidentified person torched Kapil Chauhan's car. Investigators reviewed footage from over 350 CCTV cameras in the area to track down the suspects. This led to the arrest of Vinita, the woman behind the plot, and her driver, Ajay Chauhan.
During questioning, Ajay revealed Vinita's involvement. Police found key evidence in their social media chats and bank transactions. Records showed Vinita had paid Ajay Rs15,000 to carry out the arson attack. Vinita allegedly admitted to orchestrating the crime as revenge against Kapil and his younger brother. Her daughter had previously been in a relationship with Kapil's brother, who later refused to marry her. Investigators also linked Vinita to an earlier incident in November 2022, when she arranged the theft of Kapil's brother's motorcycle. On the day of the car fire, Vinita provided Ajay with Kapil's address and guided him over the phone.
Both suspects remain in custody following their confessions. The investigation relied on digital evidence and surveillance footage to piece together the events. No further legal steps by Kapil Chauhan or his family have been reported so far.
