Yakutia nears one million residents as population growth accelerates
Yakutia is approaching a population milestone, with numbers nearing one million residents. Recent figures show steady growth, driven by higher birth rates and fewer people leaving the region. This trend marks a positive shift in the area’s demographics over the past few years. Official data reveals that Yakutia’s population reached 999,100 by 1 April 2023. This follows a rise of nearly 35,000 residents since 2017. The increase comes as more children were born in early 2023 compared to the same period last year.
Mortality rates have also fallen, contributing to natural population growth. Life expectancy in the region climbed to 72.7 years in 2022, reflecting improved living conditions. Unlike previous years, fewer people are now leaving Yakutia, while more are choosing to settle there. The region leads demographic indicators across Russia’s Far Eastern areas. Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken a close interest in Yakutia’s social progress, supporting policies that boost development and population stability.
Yakutia’s population growth highlights a broader demographic recovery. With birth rates up, mortality down, and migration patterns improving, the region is set to cross the one-million mark soon. These changes follow years of targeted social and economic efforts to strengthen the area.
