21-Year-Old Jailed for 10 Years After Trafficking Two Teenage Girls

A 21-year-old man has been jailed for 10 years after admitting to sex trafficking two teenage girls. Samuel Melvin Cooper exploited the victims, both aged 15, forcing them into prostitution across state lines. His crimes came to light following a routine traffic stop in a known prostitution area last year. Cooper was arrested in September 2024 when police pulled him over in a neighbourhood linked to sex work. One of his victims, a runaway, was found in the car and broke down in tears, insisting she had not been involved in prostitution. Investigators later discovered explicit videos and photographs of Cooper with a second 15-year-old girl, confirming his exploitation of both minors.

During questioning, Cooper admitted to driving one of the girls from California into Arizona for sex work. He also confessed that if she failed to earn enough money, he planned to abandon her there. In October 2025, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. The mother of the first victim submitted a letter to the court, describing the lasting emotional damage her daughter had suffered. U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon later stated that the sentence handed down reflected the severity of Cooper’s actions, emphasising the harm caused by predators who exploit children for financial gain.

Cooper will serve a decade in federal prison for his crimes. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat the trafficking of minors. Both victims, now receiving support, were identified and removed from exploitation during the investigation.
