Belarus Overhauls Rental Market with Strict New Furnishing Rules
Belarus is set to introduce sweeping changes to its rental housing market from July 1. New rules will require landlords to provide essential furnishings and appliances in all residential properties available for rent. The reforms aim to raise living standards while supporting local manufacturers. The government decree, effective from July 1, mandates that every new rental property must include key appliances. These include a refrigerator with a freezer, a washing machine, and a microwave—all of which must be produced in Belarus. Officials have also set maximum prices: 30 base units for the refrigerator, 25 for the washing machine, and nine for the microwave.
Beyond appliances, the regulations cover interior standards. Bathrooms and toilets must now be fully tiled. Living rooms will require either parquet or laminate flooring, while walls must be plastered and painted or covered in wallpaper. The changes follow an official review of consumer requirements for residential properties. By enforcing these rules, authorities hope to improve rental conditions and increase demand for domestically made furniture, appliances, and building materials.
The reforms will take effect on July 1, marking a shift in how rental properties are prepared and equipped. Landlords must comply with the new standards, which include both structural upgrades and mandatory Belarusian-made appliances. The measures are expected to influence both housing quality and the local manufacturing sector.
