Bergen County Democrats secure ninth straight landslide victory in local elections

Bergen County's Board of Commissioners remains solidly Democratic, with a 7-0 majority following the recent election. This marks the ninth consecutive year that Republicans have not won a countywide election in the region, with Democrats securing victory by a margin of approximately 40,000 votes.

The Democratic sweep was led by incumbents Mary Amoroso, Germaine Ortiz, and Thomas Sullivan, who all retained their seats. Amoroso, formerly a Bergen Record reporter and Mahwah councilwoman, and Ortiz, previously a Palisades Park councilwoman and school board member, successfully defended their positions. Sullivan, a labor leader with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1964, also maintained his seat.

The Republican candidates, Jay Costa, John Dinice, and Andrea Slowikowski, were unable to break the Democratic streak. Dinice serves as a Mahwah school board member, Slowikowski is the Demarest council president, and Costa is a realtor and Second Amendment activist.

The election results reflect Bergen County's continued Democratic dominance, with no Republican victories at the county level since 2013. The incumbent Democratic commissioners will continue to lead the county, with Amoroso, Ortiz, and Sullivan focusing on their respective roles in the upcoming term.
