Berlin Airport Seizes 8 Kilos of Undeclared Caviar from Traveler's Luggage
Berlin (dpa/bb) — Authorities at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) have seized eight kilograms of caviar. The black sturgeon eggs, packed in 60 unlabeled screw-top jars, were discovered by officers from the Potsdam Main Customs Office in a woman's luggage a week ago, the agency announced on Friday.
According to customs officials, the product is subject to strict trade and import regulations. A 38-year-old woman traveling from Moldova claimed the caviar was a traditional Easter gift but could not specify its value or provide any documentation to support her statement.
She now faces legal consequences for violating wildlife protection laws. The caviar has been confiscated.
