Berlin child uncovers buried treasure trove in playground dig
A young child in Berlin has uncovered a hidden treasure while playing in a local playground. The stash included silver coins, gold jewellery, cash, and a gold bar—all handed over to the police. Authorities are now working to determine where the items came from.
The discovery took place in the Wilmersdorf district of Berlin. As the child played, they stumbled upon a collection of valuables buried in the playground. Among the items were silver coins, a gold wristwatch, €6,000 in cash, and a small gold bar.
The child’s father and a daycare worker quickly reported the find to the police. Officers took possession of the items and launched an investigation. So far, no missing-persons reports matching the treasure have been filed. Meanwhile, in a separate archaeological breakthrough, researchers from the University of Warsaw have found evidence of ancient alcohol production. Chemical traces of fermented drinks were detected in 4,500-year-old ceramic vessels from northeastern Poland. The study sheds new light on early brewing practices in the region. Back in Berlin, police are examining whether the discovered valuables might be stolen property. The investigation remains ongoing, with no further details released at this stage.
The treasure trove has been secured by Berlin police as they trace its origins. If no rightful owner is found, the items may eventually be returned to the finders. The case highlights how unexpected discoveries can emerge even in everyday settings.
