Berlin parking garage fire destroys vehicles, arson suspected in Friedrichshain
A fire broke out in an underground parking garage in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district late last night. The blaze damaged multiple vehicles, including a motor scooter, another moped, and two parked cars. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Residents first spotted smoke around 11:30 p.m. on Weserstraße, coming from a burning motor scooter. Two locals tried to put out the flames but failed to stop them from spreading. Firefighters from the Berlin Fire Brigade arrived and extinguished the fire, though the scooter was completely destroyed.
The fire also caused damage to a second moped and two nearby cars. Authorities now suspect arson as the likely cause. The investigation has been handed over to the arson unit of Berlin’s State Criminal Police Office. The incident left several vehicles damaged but resulted in no injuries. Police are continuing their inquiry into the suspected arson. Further updates will depend on the progress of the investigation.
