Berlin unites to honor first responders on Saint Florian's Day
Berlin’s first responders received a show of support on Saint Florian’s Day, as city leaders and the public came together to honour their work. The event, now in its fourth year, highlighted the growing challenges faced by emergency teams while raising funds for their cause. The gathering took place at the Berlin Confectioners’ Guild training bakery, where Governing Mayor Kai Wegner joined chimney sweeps, firefighters, and police officers. Their united message called for greater respect and solidarity toward those who risk their lives to protect others. Saint Florian’s Day, marked on May 4, has long been a time to recognise firefighters and chimney sweeps for their dedication.
Recent years have seen a troubling rise in attacks against first responders, making the event’s focus on gratitude even more urgent. Since its launch, the initiative has collected around €10,000 in donations, helping to support the men and women who serve the city every day.
The event reinforced the importance of safeguarding those who keep Berlin safe. With attacks on emergency workers increasing, organisers hope the campaign will encourage lasting respect for their vital role. The donations gathered will go toward assisting first responders in their daily duties.
