Berlin's A111 Highway Shut Down After Mysterious Rock Attack

Unknown individuals threw dozens of rocks onto the A111 highway in Berlin’s Tegel district yesterday afternoon. The attack caused temporary chaos, forcing police to close the road while emergency crews cleared the debris from the carriageway. The incident began just after 2:20 p.m. near the Waidmannsluster Damm exit. A truck driver first reported hearing rocks strike his cab, while a motorist later told police she saw one or more people throwing objects onto the road. Her vehicle sustained damage, though no injuries were reported.

Emergency responders arrived to find around 70 pieces of gravel scattered across the highway. Authorities shut down the A111 near the Tegel Tunnel for safety reasons. The closure lasted roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes, with the road reopening by 4:05 p.m. No suspects were found at the scene. Berlin’s criminal police, specifically the North Division of Direktion 1, have since launched an investigation. The case is being treated as dangerous interference with road traffic.

The A111 has since reopened, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police continue to search for those responsible, urging anyone with information to come forward. The incident left no reported injuries but caused disruption for drivers during the afternoon.
