Brandenburg's Museums Open Doors for International Museum Day 2024
More than 100 museums across Brandenburg will take part in this year’s International Museum Day. The annual event, organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), brings together institutions worldwide. Visitors can expect a mix of special exhibitions, guided tours, and interactive activities on Sunday. The day’s patron, Andreas Bovenschulte, President of the Bundesrat and Mayor of Bremen, has highlighted the importance of museums. He stressed their role in shaping an open and democratic society.
Several museums have prepared unique programmes for the occasion. The Stadtmuseum in Brandenburg an der Havel will host a 'Toy Party' as part of its toy exhibition. Meanwhile, the Alexandrowka Museum in Potsdam will offer free entry, fairy-tale readings, and communal music sessions. In Potsdam, a fanfare procession is planned for the Alter Markt on Sunday afternoon. The Cottbus Prison Memorial will also join the celebrations by offering reduced admission to all visitors.
International Museum Day gives visitors the chance to explore Brandenburg’s cultural institutions in new ways. With free or discounted entry, special events, and hands-on activities, museums across the region aim to engage both regular and first-time guests.
