Braunschweig prepares for Lower Saxony Day with major traffic changes

Lower Saxony Day will transform Braunschweig’s city centre from June 12 to 14. Large sections will close to traffic, prompting officials to advise visitors on parking alternatives. Designated outer-city areas and Park & Ride (P+R) facilities are being promoted to ease congestion during the festival. The main visitor parking hub will be the exhibition grounds on Eisenbütteler Straße. Seven P+R locations around the city’s outskirts will provide over 600 free spaces. These include P+R Rote Wiese (Viewegsgarten-Bebelhof), P+R Thüringenplatz (Heidberg), and P+R Friedrich-Seele-Straße (Weststadt). Other options are P+R Stöckheim, P+R Lincolnsiedlung (Rüme), P+R Petzvalstraße (Gliesmarode), and P+R Gänsekamp (Riddagshausen).

Trams and buses will connect these lots to the city centre in under 20 minutes. Additional parking will be available at Volkswagen Financial Services (Schmalbachstraße) and Siemens (Ackerstraße). Meanwhile, the Magniviertel underground garage will remain completely closed during the event. Access to the Schloss parking garage will be restricted. Entry and exit will only be possible via Georg-Eckert-Straße.

Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and use the designated parking areas. The city’s measures aim to reduce traffic jams and ensure smooth access to the festival. Public transport links from P+R sites will help attendees reach the event quickly.
