Brazil and Kuwait celebrate 68 years of diplomacy with booming trade ties

2025 marks a significant year for Brazil and Kuwait, celebrating the 68th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the opening of their respective embassies. This year also sees a substantial increase in bilateral trade, with Brazil becoming one of Kuwait's key food suppliers and Kuwait exporting oil, jet fuel, and sulfur to Brazil.

The growth in trade is a result of increased cooperation efforts. In 2024, two Brazilian trade delegations visited Kuwait, with more reciprocal missions planned. This follows a visit by Kuwait's Foreign Minister to Brazil in 1975, which paved the way for establishing resident embassies and strengthening relations. Since then, seven bilateral agreements have been signed, with more under negotiation.

The nations share common principles, including the promotion of peace, security, and non-interference in other nations' affairs. The first resident ambassadors were appointed in 1975, a significant turning point in bilateral cooperation. Official relations began in 1968, and bilateral trade has grown from $13.5 million in 1969 to nearly $1 billion in 2024, a 74-fold increase.

As Brazil and Kuwait celebrate these milestones, their economic ties continue to strengthen. With planned missions and ongoing negotiations, the future of their relationship looks promising, built on shared principles and mutual benefit.
