CDS-PP leader demands bolder identity ahead of pivotal congress

The CDS-PP is preparing for its 32nd Congress, set to take place on May 16-17 in Alcobaça. Party leader Nuno Correia da Silva has openly criticised the party’s current direction, calling for a stronger and more distinct political identity within the Democratic Alliance coalition. Speaking ahead of the event, Correia da Silva admitted that CDS-PP’s influence in government has been minimal. He argued that the party must reclaim its core principles rather than compromise them to remain in the alliance. A firm stance on values, he warned, should not be sacrificed for political convenience.

The leader emphasised that CDS-PP should position itself as the party of the family, solidarity, and taxpayers. He also called for a stronger focus on workers’ rights, claiming recent labour law debates have ignored fair wages and the true value of labour. Correia da Silva did not hold back in his assessment of the party’s performance. He accused CDS-PP of lacking ambition and failing to assert itself clearly in the political landscape. Without well-defined boundaries, he argued, the party risks losing its relevance. The upcoming congress in Leiria district will likely address these concerns as members gather to shape the party’s future direction.

The congress will give CDS-PP an opportunity to redefine its role within the coalition. Correia da Silva’s remarks suggest a push for bolder policies and a clearer identity. How the party responds could determine its influence in government moving forward.
