Chaos at Berlin's Potsdamer Platz as intruder halts S-Bahn services mid-diplomatic visit

An unidentified person caused major disruption at Potsdamer Platz S-Bahn station in Berlin on Monday morning. The incident led to halted services and a police search during a high-profile diplomatic visit. Trains on several lines were affected, with delays continuing even after the station reopened.

The trouble began when the individual entered the tracks at Potsdamer Platz and ran toward Brandenburger Tor station. Federal police immediately stopped all S-Bahn traffic in the area and launched a search operation. Despite their efforts, no one was found.

The station, originally opened in 1939, has no recent history of similar security breaches. This disruption coincided with the visit of Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Scharaa to Berlin, adding to the urgency of the response. Services on the S1, S2, S25, and S26 lines were suspended during the search. Though the line closure was later lifted, ongoing delays and cancellations persisted for affected routes.

Federal police have not confirmed the identity or motives of the individual. While train operations have partially resumed, passengers on the S1, S2, S25, and S26 lines still face disruptions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
