Chemnitz drivers face January 2026 deadline for EU license swap
Chemnitz residents holding card licenses issued between 1999 and 2001 must replace them with EU card licenses by January 19, 2026. The city's Driver Licensing Authority is assisting with the exchange process. Residents with licenses issued during this period have until January 19, 2026, to make the switch. This applies even to those with unlimited-validity licenses. However, individuals born before January 1, 1953, have an extended deadline of January 19, 2033. To facilitate the exchange, the Driver Licensing Authority will offer extended opening hours on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be booked via the authority’s hotline at 115 or by emailing [email protected]. Applicants must provide their full name, date of birth, driving license number, and the issuing authority. Chemnitz residents with affected driving licenses are urged to book their appointments promptly to ensure a smooth transition to the new EU card format before the January 19, 2026, deadline.
