A new office of the State Legal Aid Bureau has opened in Chkalovsk, allowing local residents to receive qualified legal assistance without having to travel to the regional center, the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod regional government reports.

"The opening of this additional office in Chkalovsk is a real step toward strengthening legal protections for socially vulnerable groups," said Maxim Fomichev, director of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional State Legal Aid Bureau. "Government lawyers at the new office provide free oral and written consultations on family, labor, housing, pension, and social issues. They also help draft lawsuits, complaints, and petitions, and represent citizens in court and before government agencies."

The launch of the State Legal Aid Bureau in Chkalovsk aligns with the federal trend of decentralizing free legal services. According to Russia's Ministry of Justice, regional offices saw a 26.4% increase in requests in 2025, with small towns driving most of that growth.

Under federal and regional laws, free legal aid is available to low-income individuals, first- and second-group disabled persons, unemployed pensioners, Great Patriotic War veterans, disabled children, orphans, veterans of combat operations, participants in the special military operation and their family members, and other eligible groups. To access these services, applicants need only a passport and documentation confirming their eligibility.
