Cyclist killed in Berlin truck collision during morning rush hour
A fatal collision involving a cyclist and a truck took place in Berlin’s Rudow district early yesterday morning. The incident occurred at around 8:40 a.m. on Neuköllner Straße, leaving one person dead at the scene. A 41-year-old cyclist was riding along the bike lane on Neuköllner Straße when a 48-year-old truck driver, travelling in the same direction, turned right onto Alt-Rudow. The manoeuvre resulted in a collision, dragging the cyclist beneath the vehicle. Emergency services confirmed the rider died immediately.
The crash prompted a lengthy investigation, forcing authorities to close Neuköllner Straße from Groß-Ziethener Chaussee. Alt-Rudow was also blocked to inbound traffic from Kappenstraße for roughly six hours. The case has since been transferred to the specialised traffic crimes unit of Police Directorate 4 (South).
The accident caused significant disruption to traffic in the area for much of the day. Investigations are now underway to determine the exact circumstances of the collision. Police have not yet released further details on potential charges or contributing factors.
