Daring Midday Bank Heist in Germany Leaves 14 Safe-Deposit Boxes Ransacked
A bank in Germany was targeted in a bold midday burglary, with thieves breaking into 14 safe-deposit boxes. The incident was uncovered when staff detected a strong, unusual smell coming from the vault. Authorities are now investigating the crime, which follows a similar high-profile heist last month. The burglary took place between noon and 2 p.m. local time. Witnesses later reported seeing three men in blue overalls near the bank around midday. Inside, an unidentified liquid was found on the vault doors, though it was confirmed to pose no health threat.
Two bank employees were checked by medics at the scene as a precaution. Of the 728 safe-deposit boxes in the vault, only 14 were tampered with. The rest remained untouched, suggesting the thieves had specific targets.
The perpetrators have not yet been identified. This latest incident has added to growing concerns about organised bank crimes across the country. Last month, another major heist saw around €30 million stolen from a different German bank. Police are reviewing evidence, including the mysterious liquid and witness accounts. The bank has not disclosed whether any valuables were taken from the compromised boxes. Investigations into the burglary are ongoing, with authorities examining possible links to other recent crimes.
