Dinslaken Honours Hanau Attack Victims in Unity Ceremony on February 19
Dinslaken will hold a memorial ceremony on February 19, 2026, to honour the nine victims of the Hanau attack. The event, open to all residents, will take place at the city’s '10+1 Trees' memorial between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. Organisers aim to promote unity and reject hatred in the community. The ceremony will centre around the '10+1 Trees' memorial, which remembers the ten victims of the NSU terrorist group and all those affected by racist violence in Germany. An interfaith prayer, led by representatives from different religious communities, will form a key part of the event.
Students from Ernst Barlach Comprehensive School will also participate, contributing readings and reflections. Mayor Simon Panke has stressed the importance of opposing far-right violence and standing together against discrimination. The gathering seeks to reinforce the city’s commitment to peaceful coexistence. All citizens are encouraged to attend and show solidarity. The event will conclude with a collective moment of remembrance for the lives lost in Hanau and other racist attacks.
The memorial will serve as a public statement against racism and extremism. By bringing together people of different backgrounds, the ceremony aims to strengthen Dinslaken’s resolve for tolerance. The city hopes for a large turnout to honour the victims and uphold shared values.
