Drunk driver crashes Mercedes into tree then flees on foot
A 42-year-old man crashed his Mercedes into a tree near Rickenbach before fleeing the scene early on Sunday morning. Police later found him walking in the Hütten district with visible injuries. His blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. The accident happened at around 5 a.m. on May 17, along County Road 6538 between Hütten and Rickenbach. The driver, heavily intoxicated, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree. The impact caused roughly €8,000 worth of damage to the Mercedes.
After the crash, the man abandoned the car and left on foot. Officers soon located him in the nearby Hütten area, where he was walking with noticeable injuries. A sobriety test revealed his blood alcohol concentration exceeded 1.5 per mille—far above the 0.5 legal threshold in Germany.
The driver now faces charges for drink-driving and leaving the scene of an accident. The Mercedes remains damaged, and authorities continue their investigation. His injuries were treated, but no further medical details have been released.
