A 28-year-old man was caught driving drunk in a muddy field near Osann-Monzel, in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district. Police discovered the vehicle had fake license plates and no valid registration or insurance. The driver now faces criminal charges for multiple offences.
The incident began when the unlicensed driver became stuck in a field. Officers arriving at the scene quickly noticed the vehicle's fake plates. They also found that the car lacked proper registration and insurance.
A blood test confirmed the man's alcohol level at 1.1 per mille—well above the legal limit. Authorities immediately banned him from driving further. The fake plates were seized as part of the investigation. Criminal proceedings have since been launched against the driver. Police are examining all violations, including drunk driving, unlicensed operation, and the use of forged documents.
The driver remains under investigation for multiple traffic violations. His vehicle was impounded due to the lack of valid paperwork. Police have warned of strict penalties for similar offences in the future.
