Drunk e-scooter rider critically injured in Berlin's early-morning crash

Incident No. 0399

Early this morning, a traffic accident in Berlin's Alt-Treptow neighborhood left an e-scooter rider injured. At around 5:30 a.m., a 21-year-old man was traveling along Puschkinallee toward Treptow on an e-scooter. Near Bouchéstraße, he veered left into oncoming traffic for reasons still under investigation, colliding head-on with a car driven by a 47-year-old. The e-scooter rider suffered a head laceration as well as back and rib injuries. An ambulance took him to a hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

During the accident investigation, officers detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. A voluntary breathalyzer test registered approximately 1.6 per mille, prompting a blood sample to be taken at the hospital. Puschkinallee was closed to traffic while the scene was processed.

The case is now under investigation by the traffic accident unit of Police Directorate 3 (East).
