Drunken assault at Halle train station leaves man injured after cigarette request
A violent altercation broke out at Halle (Saale) Central Station in the early hours of March 27, 2026. Federal Police were alerted to the disturbance at 2:30 a.m., where a 53-year-old man was attacked after asking for a cigarette. The suspect, a 35-year-old, now faces criminal charges for the assault.
The incident began when the victim approached the suspect for a cigarette. Instead of a response, the 35-year-old allegedly hurled insults and threats before turning violent. He struck the 53-year-old once with a closed fist and twice with open palms, then poured a carton of milk over his head.
Officers arrived quickly and took the aggressor into custody. A breathalyser test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 1.52 per mille—well above the legal limit. Authorities confirmed the suspect would be charged with insult, threats, and bodily harm. No further details have been released regarding the prosecutor's response or additional charges at this time.
The 35-year-old remains in custody following the attack. The victim's injuries and the suspect's intoxication level will likely factor into the legal proceedings. Police have not disclosed whether further action will be taken beyond the initial charges.
