Duisburg’s BIWAQ Program Transforms Lives Through Job Placements and Training
The BIWAQ Duisburg program has proven successful in helping disadvantaged residents find jobs. Since January 2023, it has supported 827 individuals, with 670 being unemployed and 735 having a migrant background. The initiative, centrally coordinated by the Unit for Economic Affairs, offers free counseling, job searches, résumé preparation, interview coaching, and digital media skills training. It collaborates closely with the Duisburg Job Center, local businesses, and neighborhood management teams in Marxloh and Hochfeld.
The BIWAQ Duisburg program has achieved remarkable results. As of now, 171 participants have found jobs, 32 have started vocational training, and 222 have significantly improved their job prospects. The program has successfully integrated diverse individuals into the labor market, including a single Syrian mother of three, a 33-year-old Afghan man, and a 52-year-old Moroccan. Participants benefit from opportunities for workplace trials and employment in local construction projects, such as those tied to the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) in Hochfeld. Notably, Leipzig is among the top three projects with the highest number of participants in the current BIWAQ funding round.
The BIWAQ Duisburg program has demonstrated its effectiveness in assisting disadvantaged residents, particularly the long-term unemployed and those with a migrant background, in finding jobs and integrating into the labor market. With 827 individuals supported since January 2023, the initiative continues to make a significant impact on the local community.
