Edeka's Brome supermarket faces relocation hurdles despite local support
Edeka Grocer Josef-Stefan Kreiter Has Run the Brome Store for Three Years
For the past three years, Edeka retailer Josef-Stefan Kreiter has managed the supermarket in Brome. Plans had called for constructing a modern new building in the town, but with no reliable prospects for the project at present, continuing operations at the existing store is no longer feasible, according to a company spokesperson.
Employees Informed
All twelve employees were notified well in advance. Some have already found new career opportunities, including positions within the Edeka group. "I would like to express my heartfelt thanks now to our loyal customers, who have supported my team and me in Brome over the years," says Josef-Stefan Kreiter.
Nevertheless, Edeka Minden-Hannover—the responsible regional subsidiary—remains interested in establishing a new location in Brome. The municipality of Brome has consistently supported Edeka's efforts to stay in the area and reposition itself at a new, more modern and efficient site. For this reason, local authorities have included a new development plan for the Lerchenfeld area in their proposals.
Concerns Raised by the Higher Administrative Court
The next steps for the municipality of Brome will be to address the concerns raised by the Higher Administrative Court and provide credible documentation that the proposed alternative sites have been thoroughly evaluated and are not available. "We are closely monitoring further developments and, together with the municipality of Brome, hope for a timely resolution to ensure the long-term provision of local supplies," the company spokesperson concluded.
