Fake Spanish ID fails at German border, exposing fugitive with three warrants

A man posing as a Spanish citizen was stopped at a German border crossing after presenting a forged ID. Federal Police officers at Ludwigsdorf grew suspicious when the traveller could only show a mobile phone photo of a Spanish identity card. Further checks revealed discrepancies that led to his arrest.

The incident took place on Thursday evening around 10:50 p.m. at the Ludwigsdorf motorway border crossing. The man, travelling with his cousin, claimed to be Spanish but lacked proper documentation. Instead, he showed officers a digital image of an ID card on his phone.

A closer inspection found that while the photo on the card matched the man's appearance, the personal details did not. His fingerprints were also flagged in the system, linking him to three active warrants in Germany for unauthorised entries. When confronted, he admitted to forging the document. The man's Tunisian passport was later discovered in his cousin's possession. Both travellers were initially denied entry and faced criminal proceedings. The cousin, a Tunisian national with a valid French residence permit, was eventually allowed to continue his journey after proving ownership of the passport. Authorities issued the imposter with an entry refusal and a two-year ban from re-entering Germany. He was then turned back towards Poland.

The case highlights ongoing border security efforts, with Bavarian police recording 1,902 instances of unauthorised entries in 2025 alone. The man now faces legal consequences, while his cousin was permitted to proceed to France after verification. No further details on the warrants or previous incidents were provided.
