Georgia Launches New Academy to Train Future Diplomats by 2025

The Georgian government has announced plans to open a new institution dedicated to diplomatic training. Called the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy, it aims to improve the country’s foreign service by producing highly skilled professionals. Officials expect the academy to start operations in September next year, pending final approvals. The project was developed by Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their goal is to address gaps in current education, as existing university programmes fail to provide the specialised skills needed for diplomacy. The academy will operate under direct departmental oversight to maintain rigorous teaching and research standards.

The new institution follows the model of other state-run academies in Georgia, such as the Defense Academy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Academy, and the Security Academy. Its focus will be on preparing personnel for the diplomatic service, with a curriculum designed to strengthen Georgia’s foreign policy capabilities.

Once authorised, the academy will begin training diplomats from September 2025. The government believes it will fill a critical need for expert personnel in international relations. The move aligns with efforts to enhance Georgia’s position in global diplomacy.
