North Rhine-Westphalia Issues Warning Over Three Products Containing Undeclared Sildenafil

German authorities warn of food products laced with undeclared sildenafil

The Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection (MLV) of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia has warned consumers against eating or using three products found to contain sildenafil, a prescription-only medication that was not listed on their labels.

According to the ministry, sildenafil is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and is not approved for use in food production or consumption. Unsupervised intake without medical oversight can pose serious health risks, including dangerous interactions with other medications or severe side effects such as rapid heart rate, sudden drops in blood pressure, vision impairment, and prolonged erections, which may be life-threatening.

The Products in Question

The first affected product is Drill Ginseng Drink, manufactured by Mer Ilac Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi in Istanbul. The label lacks any indication of an expiration date or batch number.

The second is Drill Chocolate (EAN 8699004700447), a Turkish chocolate product that also fails to display batch or expiry information.

The third is Epimedyumlu Bitkisel Karışımlı Macun (EAN 8697446214102), produced in Akdeniz/Mersin, which bears an expiration date of September 9, 2028, and the batch number PSN 20250910.

Since none of these products list a responsible distributor within the EU, and their exact sales channels in Germany remain unclear, the ministry has taken the step of directly alerting consumers to the risk.
