German man arrested after Offenburg theft spree involving bike and perfume
A 41-year-old man with a prior criminal record was brought before an investigating judge at Offenburg District Court on Friday morning following an alleged theft spree in the city on Thursday. The arrest came at the request of the Offenburg Public Prosecutor's Office, and the judge ordered pretrial detention, leading to the suspect's transfer to a correctional facility.
The detention order is based on three thefts—some committed under aggravating circumstances—that authorities allege the man carried out. Investigators claim he first broke into and stole a locked Ghost-brand bicycle worth around €2,000 from Lange Straße at approximately 8:30 a.m. Just minutes later, he reportedly entered a drugstore on Hauptstraße, where he allegedly took perfume valued at nearly €200 without paying.
Around midday, the German national—who was later arrested—was again spotted on Hauptstraße, this time fleeing on a stolen e-scooter. However, two witnesses managed to intercept and detain him shortly after noon. Officers from Offenburg Police Station continue to investigate the case.
