Germany's Minister Urges Integration Over Deportation for Syrian Refugees
German Development Minister Reem Alabali-Radovan has criticised ongoing debates about deporting Syrians. She argues that such discussions create unnecessary uncertainty for those who have already built lives in Germany. Instead, she is pushing for better integration of their skills into the country’s development efforts. Alabali-Radovan spoke at the New Beginning for Syria event, where participants highlighted their long-standing contributions. Many Syrians in Germany have been actively involved in reconstruction projects for their home country while also integrating into German society.
The minister stressed that these individuals play a vital role in Germany. Rather than facing potential forced returns, she wants their expertise to be used more effectively. Her plan includes closer collaboration with German diaspora communities in future development programmes.
The minister’s remarks signal a shift in focus from deportation debates to practical integration. Syrians in Germany will now have more opportunities to apply their skills in both local and international projects. This approach aims to strengthen ties between Germany and Syria’s reconstruction efforts.
