Grease fire ravages farmhouse kitchen in Apen-Klauhön
A grease fire broke out in a farmhouse in Apen-Klauhön on Saturday just before 1 p.m. The blaze started on the stove and spread rapidly through the kitchen. One woman suffered mild smoke inhalation during the incident.
The fire began around 12:45 p.m. when cooking grease ignited on the stove. Flames quickly engulfed the entire kitchen unit, causing significant damage. Volunteer fire brigades from Apen and Godensholt arrived to bring the situation under control.
The woman inside the house inhaled smoke but managed to escape without serious injury. She was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other family members were present at the time. The property suffered extensive damage, with repair costs estimated in the high five-figure euro range. Authorities have declared the home temporarily uninhabitable until repairs are completed.
The incident left the kitchen heavily damaged and the house unsafe for occupation. The affected woman received medical care for smoke inhalation. Fire crews have since secured the scene while investigations continue.
