The image shows a poster advertising a Berliner secession, featuring a woman standing in front of a tree. The poster has text written on it, likely describing the event. The woman is wearing a long, flowing dress and has her arms outstretched, as if she is embracing the tree. Her hair is pulled back in a bun and she has a peaceful expression on her face. The tree behind her is tall and leafy, with a few branches reaching up to the sky.

Green Party slams Merz for mishandling Trump's troop withdrawal threat

Berlin. Green Party defense policy expert Sara Nanni has blamed Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) for U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to withdraw American troops from Germany.

"This blatant threat from Trump could have been avoided if clear terms had been set behind the scenes long ago," Nanni told the news portal T-Online. She stressed that the U.S. needs NATO just as much as NATO needs the U.S., adding that it was time someone made that clear to Trump.

Nanni also called on Merz to stop lamenting about difficult times and instead use the power at his disposal as chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany to advance national interests. "Trump's reckless threats need to be met with smart countermeasures," she said.

The Green politician criticized the fact that Trump has been in office since January 2025, yet the German government still lacks a plan for dealing with his political unreliability. "Instead of this erratic mix of appeasement and tough talk, the Merz administration must finally develop a coherent strategy," she demanded.
