Berlin. Green Party parliamentary leader Britta Haßelmann has given the center-right coalition government a "very poor" report card, urging Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) to take action.

"Friedrich Merz must finally step up and take responsibility as leader," Haßelmann told news portal T-Online. "I hope Friedrich Merz and Lars Klingbeil will finally come to their senses," she added. After one year of the center-right coalition, she said it was clear the government was "incapable of action" and simply failing to deliver. "Promises are constantly being made and then broken," said the co-chair of the Green parliamentary group.

The Green Party's Bundestag faction will convene for a closed strategy meeting in Leipzig starting Tuesday. Among the guests will be CDU politician and chair of the party-affiliated Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. "I believe it is essential that we engage in dialogue during times of crisis like these," Haßelmann explained regarding the invitation. She emphasized that it is now more important than ever for "democratic forces with differing views" to work together on preventing "the division of society." "This is what we stand for, and this is what Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, as head of the KAS, stands for as well. We Greens will always maintain these connections."
