How a 70-year-old plastics firm thrives under family leadership and innovation

Plastro Mayer, a long-standing plastics manufacturer, remains a family-run business with a clear focus on innovation and sustainability. Founded nearly 70 years ago as a Trigema subsidiary, the company now operates independently under the leadership of Johannes Grupp and his daughter, Isabel Grupp-Kofler. Together, they oversee a firm generating around €30 million in annual revenue.

The company was established in 1956 as part of Trigema but became fully independent in 1976. Today, it specialises in producing plastic components, cables, and industrial parts for major brands like Miele, Liebherr, and Kärcher. Johannes Grupp continues to head the business, while Isabel Grupp-Kofler drives strategy, branding, and innovation.

Isabel Grupp-Kofler spent 15 years climbing the ranks at Plastro Mayer before stepping into a managing director role. Beyond the company, she holds leadership positions as state chair of Junge Unternehmer Baden-Württemberg and serves as a mentor for the Grace Berlin Accelerator. She is also a member of the Club of European Businesswomen. Married to media executive and investor Georg Kofler—known for his involvement in *The Lion’s Den*—she remains vocal about economic policy. Grupp-Kofler has criticised excessive government intervention in business, calling instead for improved conditions to support companies. Despite global competition, Plastro Mayer has no plans to move production overseas, prioritising sustainable growth in Germany.

With a strong family leadership structure and a commitment to domestic production, Plastro Mayer maintains its position in the plastics industry. The company’s focus on innovation and sustainability keeps it competitive, while its ties to major manufacturers ensure steady demand. Under Isabel Grupp-Kofler’s strategic direction, the firm continues to balance tradition with forward-looking business practices.
