Halle-Neustadt's family centre closure leaves vulnerable families stranded
Halle-Neustadt Family Center Run by Sports Youth Association to Close in March
More and more facilities in Halle (Saale) will likely have to shut down starting in March due to the city's budget still awaiting approval—negotiations with the State Administrative Office may drag on until April.
Following the closure of the Grüne Villa in Halle-Neustadt and the Blaue Elefant in Silberhöhe, the family center run by the Halle Sports Youth Association (Hallesche Sportjugend / SG Buna) on Blumenauweg in Heide-Nord will also close its doors on March 1.
"Once again, it's the poorest in our neighborhood who are hit hardest," say those involved. The center had provided children and their families with a second home, offering daily warm meals to 10 families, homework and learning support, play activities, social counseling, and childcare—along with weekly sports sessions in the gym.
