Indore businessman receives Rs 15 crore extortion threat from Lawrence Bishnoi gang

A real estate businessman in Indore received a threatening call from a man claiming to be part of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller demanded Rs 15 crore and warned of deadly consequences if the payment was not made. Police have since stepped in to provide protection to the victim.

Sanjay Jain, a local businessman, answered a call from an international number on Thursday, March 16. The caller introduced himself as Harry Boxer, an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He demanded Rs 15 crore and threatened to kill Jain if the money was not handed over.

The caller also boasted about knowing personal details of Jain and his family. He insisted that neither the police nor anyone else could protect the businessman. When Jain disconnected the call, the extortionist followed up with a voice message and a video call, which went unanswered.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, formed in the early 2000s, operates across Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. Known for extortion, illegal mining, and contract killings, its leaders often coordinate crimes from prison. Similar threats have been reported in other districts, raising concerns about the gang's expanding reach.

Tukoganj police registered an FIR against the unidentified caller. Investigators are now tracing the phone numbers used in the calls and messages.

Security has been arranged for Sanjay Jain while authorities work to track down the extortionist. The case highlights the ongoing threat posed by organised gangs using international numbers to intimidate victims. Police efforts to trace the calls remain underway.
