Expert: Mongolia Is a Reliable Partner for Kazakhstan in Tokayev's Asian Strategy
Kazakhstan and Mongolia Forge Strategic Partnership for Regional Growth
The state visit of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh to Kazakhstan marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations, which—according to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev—have now reached the level of a strategic partnership and are moving toward the implementation of concrete projects. The talks covered key areas, from economics and logistics to energy, science, and humanitarian cooperation.
In an interview, Amangul Shugatai, a research fellow at the Institute of International Studies of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, analyzes the significance of the visit, the complementarity of economic interests, and the role of historical and cultural ties. She also highlights the Kazakh diaspora as a "living bridge" between the two nations. A specialist in Mongolia's and Kazakhstan's foreign policy, Shugatai assesses Tokayev's diplomatic role and explains why Mongolia holds a pivotal place in his "Asia-Connected Kazakhstan" strategy.
