Kazakhstan and Türkiye formalize military air transit agreement
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ratified a new military transit agreement with Türkiye. The deal, signed in Astana last September, sets out rules for overflights and air transit of military personnel and equipment. It also covers emergency procedures and the protection of classified information between the two nations. The agreement establishes a legal framework for military transport and chartered civilian flights crossing both countries’ airspace. All operations must comply with ICAO regulations and the national laws of Kazakhstan and Türkiye.
Under the terms, authorised agencies from each state will handle flight permits and coordinate transit procedures. The deal also outlines specific protocols for air navigation, airport services, and ground handling during military movements. Alongside this, Tokayev approved a separate law ratifying Kazakhstan’s strategic partnership agreement with the United Kingdom. Both legal texts have now been officially published in print.
The ratified agreement formalises cooperation between Kazakhstan and Türkiye on military air transit. It ensures structured procedures for flights, permits, and emergency responses. The published laws confirm the legal commitments of both nations under the new framework.
