Kazakhstan's first reserve officer oath unites 448 university students in historic ceremony
A historic military oath-taking ceremony took place at the K. Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business in Astana. For the first time, 448 students pledged allegiance to the Republic of Kazakhstan as part of a newly established reserve officer training program. The event marked a significant moment for the university’s military department, founded just this year.
The ceremony followed strict military traditions. Students stood before the national flag as the anthem played, swearing their commitment to the country. Vice Admiral Zhandarbek Zhanzakov, who leads the university’s military department, confirmed that 440 men and eight women took part in the oath.
The program is open to both genders, with growing interest among female students each year. Parents of the highest-achieving cadets received letters of appreciation from the university president, recognising their children’s dedication. The military department unites students from nine universities across Astana, including Nazarbayev University and Maqsut Narikbayev University. Its goal is to provide military-patriotic education to future officers. Veterans of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces and government officials attended the event, underscoring its importance. This was the first oath-taking for the reserve officer program since the department’s creation in 2024. The initiative reflects a broader effort to strengthen military training among the country’s top university students.
The ceremony solidified the commitment of 448 students to Kazakhstan’s defence. With the military department now linking nine universities, the program is set to expand. More young men and women are expected to join in the coming years, following this year’s historic first intake.
