Lahnstein introduces contact-free postal voting for 2026 state election

Lahnstein Around 14,000 residents of Lahnstein will have the opportunity on March 22, 2026, to help shape the political future of their state by voting in the election for the 19th Landtag of Rhineland-Palatinate. By casting their ballots, eligible voters will directly influence the composition of the state parliament in Mainz—and thus the priorities of regional policy over the next five years.

Official voting notifications will be mailed to households starting February 17, 2026. To make participation as easy and flexible as possible, the Lahnstein city administration is offering several contact-free options for requesting postal voting materials. After receiving their notification, voters can conveniently apply for the documents via the printed QR code, by email at [email protected], or online through the form on the city's website at www.lahnstein.de/briefwahl. Alternatively, they may submit a written request using the form on the back of their voting notification. Due to legal restrictions, phone applications are not permitted.

Completed postal ballots can be sent free of charge via Deutsche Post or dropped off in the ballot box at the Lahnstein Electoral Office, located at the Stadthalle Lahnstein city hall. Voters are asked not to submit their postal ballots at other municipal offices in Lahnstein.

For those who need in-person assistance with their application or prefer to cast their vote directly on site, the electoral office will open in the conference rooms of the Stadthalle at Salhofplatz starting February 19, 2026. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with extended hours on Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. No appointment is necessary.

In a call to citizens, Mayor Lennart Siefert underscored the importance of voter turnout: "Democracy is not self-sustaining—it thrives on our active participation. Every vote cast on March 22 is a clear commitment to our shared responsibility for Rhineland-Palatinate and our hometown of Lahnstein. Exercise your right to vote and help determine the direction of our future!"
