Lancaster newspaper faces backlash over immigration coverage and editorial fairness

A letter published on Nov. 2 in the LNP | LancasterOnline Facebook page criticises the newspaper's opinion editors for perceived unfairness towards Congressman Lloyd Smucker. The letter questions why the Editorial Board overlooked California's Medi-Cal expansion for undocumented immigrants and accuses them of falsely accusing Smucker.

The letter points out that California, under Governor Gavin Newsom, decided in 2024 to include undocumented immigrants in its Medi-Cal programme, using state funds. Mark Johnson, a resident of East Hempfield Township, supports the newspaper editors, highlighting that the expansion is funded solely by California's state dollars, not federal funds.

The letter challenges the LNP | LancasterOnline's opinion editors' stance on the issue, while Mark Johnson defends the editors' position. The newspaper's coverage of the topic remains a point of contention among readers.
