Waste Collection Delayed by One Day Over May Day 2026 in Lübeck

Waste collection services in Lübeck will be postponed by one day starting May 1, 2026, the city's waste management company, Entsorgungsbetriebe Lübeck (EBL), has announced. The change affects pickup schedules for residual waste, organic waste, and paper bins, as well as yellow recycling bags. From May 1 onward, all scheduled collections will shift forward by one day.

The adjustment is due to the May Day public holiday falling on Friday, May 1, 2026. According to EBL, the revised schedule for 2026 already accounts for holiday-related shifts. Residents using the official collection calendar will find the updated dates pre-marked, making it easier to plan around the holiday.

To ensure smooth operations, waste containers must be placed out by the new collection time. Bins should be accessible to EBL staff from 6:00 AM to avoid delays, while paper bins and yellow recycling bags must be left at the curb by the same time to guarantee pickup.

Specifically, collections originally scheduled for Friday, May 1, 2026, will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026. This applies to residual waste, organic waste, paper bins, and yellow recycling bags. Residents expecting a Friday pickup should note the replacement date and prepare accordingly. EBL emphasizes that all collections are simply delayed by one day—not canceled.

The waste management company also stresses the importance of having bins ready by 6:00 AM. This allows collection crews to access them on the first pass without additional stops. For the most efficient service, containers and bags should be positioned early on the collection day in a way that ensures easy access and speeds up the process.
