Lufthansa Cityline may also face an impending strike as pilots clash with the company over pay, demanding annual wage increases of 3.3 percent.

Following the pilots' strike at Lufthansa's core airline, the carrier's regional subsidiary, Lufthansa Cityline, could soon see industrial action of its own. After wage negotiations reached a deadlock, the union's bargaining committee at the Cockpit Association (VC) has called for a ballot among members. According to the VC, a decision on the vote is expected later this week.

"Instead of offering concrete improvements, the employer insisted that any pay increase would have to be offset by cuts elsewhere," said Tanja Viehl, the VC's lead negotiator. "When improvements are only offered on the condition of reductions in other areas, that's not an improvement—it's a wage freeze with redistribution."

Lufthansa's management has announced plans to phase out operations at Cityline next year, transitioning its routes to the newly established Lufthansa City Airlines. However, the VC maintains that this restructuring has no bearing on the ongoing pay dispute. The union is demanding annual wage adjustments of 3.3 percent for 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Separately, the cabin crew union UFO staged a warning strike at Cityline last week, pressing for a collective bargaining agreement that includes a social plan to protect employees during the transition.
