Magadan Region approves major road projects and new council leadership

New roads, stricter oversight, and fresh leadership mark a turning point for Magadan's transport future. Will these changes ease traffic and safety concerns?

Magadan Region approves major road projects and new council leadership

Our website, April 27. The latest meeting of the Public Council under the Magadan Region's Ministry of Road Infrastructure and Transport took place on April 21, the press service of the Magadan Regional Government reports.

The session was attended by members of the Public Council, representatives of the Magadan Region's Ministry of Road Infrastructure and Transport, the Magadan City Administration, the Municipal Budgetary Institution "UDTK," the Territorial Office of the State Road Traffic Supervision for the Magadan Region (part of the Far Eastern Interregional Directorate of State Road Traffic Supervision), the branch of the Federal Road Agency's Directorate for Roads in the Far East, and the Traffic Police Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for the Magadan Region.

During the meeting, Public Council members discussed the following key issues:

  1. Road construction, reconstruction, and repair plans for 2026 Plans were reviewed for federal, regional, intermunicipal, and municipal roads in the Magadan Region. Reports were presented by the Municipal Budgetary Institution "UDTK," the Magadan City Administration, and the Federal Road Agency's Directorate for Roads in the Far East, outlining work scheduled for the current year—including repairs under the national project "Infrastructure for Life." Participants took note of recommendations from the Traffic Police Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for the Magadan Region, urging advance measures to ensure road safety, such as installing temporary traffic signs and notifying the public about upcoming roadworks. The Council also resolved to advise contractors to strengthen oversight of construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance contracts for the region's roads.
  2. Measures to preserve roads in 2025–2026 Following presentations by the aforementioned organizations, Council members discussed ongoing and planned initiatives to maintain road infrastructure. Additional proposals were put forward, including:
  3. Expanding parking capacity in response to the growing number of privately owned vehicles in the region;
  4. Widening existing roads by adding lanes;
  5. Designing and constructing new urban roads, particularly through the Gorokhovoe Pole area;
  6. Enhancing contractor oversight for road construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance projects.
  7. Election of the Public Council's chair, deputy chair, and secretary After deliberation and voting, the Council elected its chair, deputy chair, and secretary by majority decision.
  8. Approval of the Public Council's 2026 work plan The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Council's work plan for the current year.
